Quitting your job to pursue business is definitely not a walk a park. It’s a big decision that may or may not work all the time. Three siblings are proving that sometimes taking the risk of quitting their jobs to become entrepreneurs is worth it.
Jamaica, Janeeva and Danice Verceles are now happy young entrepreneurs managing their separate businesses. But before they reached their success, they were once employees who took the risk of resigning. The sisters shared their story in a report by the Philippine Star.
Jamaica was already working for 3 years in an animation company when he decided to venture into a sticker and stationery business, Paperaica Shop. After just one month, she decided to give her business her full attention.
She shared, “Actually, ‘yung funny story ‘yung akin I was only like one-month old in my sticker shop when I decided to left my job kasi po, in the first place po kasi practically speaking hindi po talaga ganun ka-taas ‘yung sahod ko. Parang, yes I have a full-time job na meron akong monthly income pero it’s just not enough.”
The risk was completely worthwhile because Jamaica now makes six figures each month instead of the P20,000 she was making at her previous job. Her success became a big driving force in influencing her sisters, Janeeva and Danice, to try and become entrepreneurs as well.
Danice had been working as an HR officer for 3 years when she decided to follow her heart and pursue baking. She found the perfect opportunity to do it when the pandemic came. Initially, she was reluctant to let go of her job and tried to juggle her day job and selling her baked goods.
“Hindi ko pa po agad inisip na mag-resign… Kasi natatakot ako and then, common naman po na ganun ‘di ba? Na matatakot po ‘yung tao na mag-resign agad-agad without the assurance na, “Okay may bibili sa’kin.” Kasi at that time po, hindi din naman din po sikat ‘yung mga kung ano po ‘yung bine-bake ko. Wala rin naman pong bumibili pa masyado,” Danice shared in a report by the Latest Chika.
But things eventually worked out for her shop, Ciento Cookies, and she finally decided to focus on it full-time. Like her sister Jamaica, Danice is now earning 6-figures too.
Among the three sisters, it was Janeeva who tried to juggle work and business for a year before resigning. She calls it “one of the hardest decisions of my life.” She runs a skincare and cosmetic business, Dear Self Beauty. Upon witnessing the success of her sisters, Janeeva too, decided to become a full-time entrepreneur.
There have been many inspiring stories of successful entrepreneurs who risked their jobs to venture into business. A 25-year-old quit her job and build a coffee brand. The mother who built Babymama also let go of her job to follow her passion in business.
