Because of the wealth of digital resources available today, anyone can become an entrepreneur. However, many entrepreneurs quickly discover after embarking on the roller coaster that is entrepreneurship that it takes a special level of passion and drive to ride the roller coaster that is entrepreneurship.
So, how do you know that you have what it takes to become an entrepreneur?
Here are the signs if you are an entrepreneur at heart:
1. You’re always striving for more
You’ve never settled for “enough” and feel like you need to find work that is truly meaningful and fulfilling. You might even be drawn to more “other-centered” occupations, meaning jobs that are more focused on giving or serving others. You have an inner voice telling you that you have a greater purpose than sitting in an office job.
Even in the corporate sector, you like to take on “unconventional” roles such as starting new initiatives, building teams, and working on structures. Essentially, you’re a covert entrepreneur hiding behind your corporate desk. You actually thrive on the act of constructing and building something from the ground up.
2. You’re a problem solver
You like the thrill of finding solutions to problems and get equally ecstatic when you finally get the right one. You are driven by difficulties, and when something appears to be “bad” in your life, you perceive it as an opportunity rather than a setback. You’re a doer who strives for success even in the face of difficulties.
Candace Nelson, the founder of Sprinkles Cupcakes, recounts how she launched her bakery despite opposition from many people. But now, they are well-known and already have locations in eight states and are expanding. The trick is to persevere and to trust your instincts.
3. You’re a self-starter
You dislike being put in a box and prefer to continually learn new talents and be motivated by various tasks. When it comes to operating your own business, the only one who can push you is you. Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart. If you lack the drive to run your firm, put in the hard hours, and make difficult decisions, your business will most likely fail. True entrepreneurs understand that their fate is in their own hands and utilize this as motivation to push themselves to be the best they can be for their firm.
4. You want more control of your time
You like being independent on the job and making your own decisions. That’s not to suggest you’re not a team player; you just want to be in charge. It’s not your thing to be a follower or to be told what to do. You enjoy diversity and are an expert multitasker.
You put in a lot of time, not for yourself but for someone else. But you have a strong feeling like it’s time for you to pick how many hours you work and when you take vacation. You want to achieve work-life balance, and working for yourself allows you to choose your own schedule.
5. You have passion
Above all, you have PASSION. Passion for your career, your family, your views, and the world around you. Some may even label you as emotional at times, but it’s actually just that fire inside of you yearning to be released. You care deeply and want to leave a legacy that you can be proud of.
If you can connect to one or more of these signs, you are most certainly an entrepreneur at heart!
