51Talk is Hiring 30K English Teachers

Founder and Chief Executive Officer Jack Huang called on Filipinos to join 51Talk as online teachers to cope with the job losses, as the company is set to hire an additional 30,000 Filipino teachers.

Huang made the announcement through a social media post that went viral to addressing the need for more than 500,000 foreign English-language teachers in China.

With 10 million registered students and more than 20,000 partner teachers in the Philippines, 51Talk is China’s largest online English education company. Huang further said that the Philippines is one of the best English-speaking countries in Asia. He also stated that Filipino teachers have standard American pronunciation.

Huang also believes that the current health situation is a turning point in the online education industry. He further said that there has probably never been a better time than right now to teach English online, considering the exploding demand for English-speaking teachers in China.

Aside from being a very rewarding job, online teaching turns out to be one of the jobs least affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The majority of online teachers in the Philippines work from their homes and the quarantine measures implemented did not affect the performance of their jobs.

51Talk brings together students and teachers for English lessons done live online, in its mission to help China speak with the world.

The average monthly salary in the Philippines was at P50,600 in 2019. However, a 51Talk online teacher earns more than the average at P60,000 per month.
