For seven years, Brilliant Skin has earned a significant number of loyal followers and supporters. On Facebook alone, the main page of Brilliant Skin has more than 1.5 million followers, while Miss Glenda has 3 million followers. But the road to her success was not easy; it was a long process of failing, getting back up, and learning all the way.

“Lady Boss” Miss Glenda, shared in an interview with Ogie Diaz via his YouTube channel how she started her inspiring business story. According to her, all her hard work was a product of her dream to give her grandmother a better life. Her father passed away when she was 2 years old, and her mother left them.

She started working at the age of 12 to help earn money. When she was 13 to 15, she started working as a virtual assistant until she became a team leader while working in a call center.

She explained, “Walang alam yung mga staff ko na yung boss na kausap nila ay 13 to 15 years old, kasi mga foreigner yung mga amo namin eh.” [My staff didn’t know that the boss they were speaking with was only 13 to 15 years old because our bosses were foreigners.]

Her job as a virtual assistant was cut short when it was discovered she was underage. This misfortune turned into her luck as she started venturing into business. At age 15, she was selling different items from Divisoria. Her most memorable experience was when she was selling candles and met a gay man who turned out to be the manager of a soap manufacturing company. Miss Glenda remembered how something inside her clicked, and she said, “Ito ang hinahanap ko!” [This is what I’ve been looking for.]

This motivated her to do more research into beauty soaps. Not long after, she decided to manufacture her own activated charcoal soaps and decided to ask the manager she met to help. Miss Glenda admitted at that time that she had no money for capital. She had to ask for credit and promised to pay for the 3,000 pieces of soap once she sold them all.

This was just the first step to her big success with Brilliant Skin as she manufactured other beauty and cosmetic products. Looking back at her experiences, Miss Glenda advises other aspiring entrepreneurs to have a dream and worked hard for it. “Hindi lang ako nangarap, sinabayan ko rin ng kilos,” she said. [I didn’t just have a dream, I acted on it.]

Venturing into the cosmetic and beauty business could be the key to your success. Like Miss Glenda, Rosmar Tan now earns millions selling beauty products. Even big celebrities are trying their luck with beauty product businesses like Ivana Alawi’s brand, Ivana Skin.
