Former Call Center Agent Becomes Millionaire Thanks To Butterfly Squid Business

Many times, fate has a way of redirecting us to the path less traveled. This path may be totally out of our comfort zones or something unexpected. However, if followed and done right, the risk will be really rewarding. Take the story of entrepreneur Winna Baldonado, the owner of Above Sea Level, the name of her seafood restaurant chain.

This inspiring success story will remind us how important it is to take calculated risks when it comes to business. Meaning, if you’re going to risk your big plans, ensure you do the proper work to make your business worth it.

[I used to work in a call center, and I saved enough money because I had plans to go abroad. I already resigned from my jo and my papers were all set for me to go to Dubai.]

Her plans changed when she was invited by a friend to visit a food park. Her friends shared with her that she started her own food business for P200,000 to P300,000. During that talk, Winna could feel her ambitions as an entrepreneur taking shape. As a result of this, she decided to cancel her trip to Dubai. Instead, she was determined to start a successful business.

With the help of a friend who was a chef, Winna came up with her signature butterfly squid recipe. When starting a food business, Maricar Reyes recommends creating a signature dish that will set you apart from the competition. According to Winna, social media played a significant role in promoting her product. Winna’s risk paid off as their giant butterfly squid became a hit and went viral online.

From one kiosk, they expanded to 60 branches nationwide, with 40 more branches expected to open soon.  She built a huge commissary on their one-hectare land, where she also plans to open a resort.

Winna’s story will remind us we can’t just blindly go down one path. She was willing to take a chance, but she also took her time developing a unique product to support her hopes for a successful business.
