Legal documents that are needed in almost every transaction in the business world will hike up their prices. Whenever the public asks for copies of their birth certificate, death and marriage certificates and also certificates of no marriage (Cenomar), they will be paying more.

The documentary stamp or tax imposed on the said documents had gone up along with other products in accordance with the TRAIN law.

Philippine Statistics Authority-Eastern Visayas (PSA-8) information officer, Nikki Joy Balase said that those who are securing civil registry documents would be paying P15 more for each copy.

A copy of birth certificate will go up from P140 – P155, a Cenomar will go up from P195 – P210.

“The increase of the new rate effective Feb. 2 is based on the implementation rules and regulations of BIR (Bureau of Internal Revenue) Revenue Regulations No.4-2-18 for documentary tax rate adjustment due to the TRAIN Law,”

The civil registry office in Eastern Visayas already started giving out the announcements through media releases, through their website and through posting in their office.

Balase says that their office is not the only one to impose the rate increase and the other offices will also be following suit.

“We have informed the public on the increase of the fees through media releases and in our website. We also announced this new rate adjustment through our public address system for those who are in our office,”

“I think the P15-increase is still within their reach. And it’s not only our office that will impose rate adjustments because of the implementation of this TRAIN Law,”
