These past two years have been the most difficult for many people, particularly because so many lost their jobs (and lives) due to the pandemic.

Help from the government came in the form of monetary subsidies, locally known as ‘ayuda’ but many believed that the amount, usually just around Php5,000 was not enough to live on.

Indeed, what can Php5,000 buy these days, huh? It probably won’t be enough to buy a month’s worth of groceries for a typical family.

Kremmie Rodriguez and Jessie Alcazar were among those who lost their jobs during the pandemic. For sure, Php4,000 ayuda isn’t going to last a month – so they decided to use it to start a business to grow their money, instead.

They made the right choice. They started with 1-2 kg a day, but are now getting orders of up to 40 kg a day!

And from that Php4,000 ayuda, they were able to grow their business and earn Php178k per month.

While they’re now enjoying the fruits of their labor, with a new home for the family, it wasn’t easy at first.

Nag-start lang kami ng capital of PHP4,000. Actually, it came from ayuda pa nga, e. Halos every day ako nagpo-post sa iba-ibang group. Pinasok ko hanggang sa makilala,” Rodriguez explained.

And then we start selling it sa mga friends, sa family, and then, eventually, hindi namin namalayan na dumadami na siya.

Because Alcazar is a dimsum chef, the two were able to come up with various dimsum items.

Each order is worth Php78 to Php158, but customers also have the option to buy a platter.

Who would have thought that a measly Php4,000 ayuda can become Php178k a month? Watch their story here:
