DPWH to Open the Elevated Segment of NLEX Harbor Link to Commuters

Traveling from C3 Road to North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) will just take approximately 10 minutes, once the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) opens the elevated part of the NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10 to motorists.

According to DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, the 5.65-kilometer long NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10 will ease the traffic situation within the key areas of Metro Manila and Northern Luzon via the NLEX, cutting the usual 4-hour travel time to just 10 minutes.

The elevated segment of NLEX Harbor Link will traverse the cities of Valenzuela, Malabon, and Caloocan. It covers Mc Arthur, Karuhatan in Valenzuela, C3 Road in Caloocan, going towards R-10 Road in Navotas City.

In a statement, Villar said that around 30,000 vehicles are expected to use this road. Aside from the commuting public, logistics firms are also expected to benefit from the project, as cargo trucks can pass through Balintawak Cloverleaf and EDSA on their way inside Metro Manila.

Trucks may also take advantage of the new road as they can have direct access from the port area going to the NLEX.

The target date of completion

The construction of the NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10 was expected to be completed December last year, in time for the Christmas rush. However, the DPWH has to face certain issues that delayed the progress of the construction project.

For one, the DPWH has to deal with the issues concerning right-of-way, relocation and resettlement of displaced residents.

As the project reached 80 percent completion, the project needed more resources in order to meet the target date of completion, not to mention that the delivery in the supply of construction and other necessary materials. The DPWH attributes the delay in the delivery because of several infrastructure projects being built or constructed around the same time.

The opening of the elevated part of the NLEX will entail an additional P6 toll fee.
