Richard Licop proudly posts his expensive big bike, cars, and other investments on social media. While some called him out for showing off, Licop explained why he doesn’t mind being called arrogant because he knows those are the fruits of his hard work.

On Facebook, Licop shared a photo showing a cash voucher dated March 27, 2011. It indicated that his salary for the month was P2,400 which meant his daily wage was as low as P80 per day. Since he worked for five days, he only got P400. He recalled that it was his pay for working as a dishwasher/ helper in a carinderia while he was also studying. Licop said he would sleep on the cold floor of the carinderia and wake up at 4:00 in the morning to clean. He would work until 4:00 in the afternoon to go to school.

As a working student, Licop was able to finish a degree in Mass Communication in the Pamantasang Lungsod ng Maynila.

Now that he can afford all the things he ever dreamed of, Licop said he wants to inspire others to continue dreaming big. “Kaya huwag kayong mayabangan sakin kung panay ako post ng mga nabibili ko at napupuntahan. Nangarap lang kasi ako noon, ngayon natutupad ko na,” he said.

Buy-and-sell business

Licop thrived as a businessman even amid the pandemic. He used to own a salon and a barbershop but due to quarantine restrictions, he had to make quick adjustments to his business.

Fortunately, Licop succeeded in his buy-and-sell business. He sold apparels and shoes but his jackpot came when he ventured into selling toy collections. Licop sold his musical instruments as capital for his start-up business.

“Nung nagpandemic, binenta ko lahat ng meron akong musical instruments. Drummer kasi ako ng banda. At naging puhunan ko sa hilig ko na mga laruan. Yun ang ibinenta ko kaya nabuo ang Kasapot Collectibles,” Licop shared with Pep.

The avid collector started building a name in the industry and even started accepting endorsements. He also went into content creation and manages a Youtube channel and Facebook page, Richard Knows.

Find your passion, make use of your skills

Because of hard work and success in his business ventures, Licop received an outpour of blessings for him and his family. He was already done paying for his brand-new car. He also bought a big bike, 650 CC and has enough savings for the downpayment of his dream house. To top it all off, Licop even has over half a million funds for his wedding.

Looking back, Licop admitted that achieving his dream was not an easy feat. He encouraged others who are also looking into opening a business to find their true passion.

“Alamin mo yung skills mo. Wag kang matakot sumubok. Balang araw, lahat ng failures mo, makakatulong sa iyo para maabot mo pangarap mo. Umpisahan mo na ngayon. Mananatiling pangarap lang iyan kung wala kang gagawin,” he stated.
