Growsari, the Filipino startup created to help sari-sari store owners save on costs, is expanding to Visayas and Mindanao.

After helping over 100,000 sari-sari stores in Luzon, Growsari is set to target 300,000 store partners by 2023 by reaching Visayas and Mindanao. Growsari chief executive and co-founder Reymund ‘ER’ Rollan revealed that they will be using the $77.5 million they raised for the expansion.

What is Growsari?

Growsari is a startup that uses an app to connect store owners directly to suppliers. Owners of sari-sari stores, carinderias, eateries, and other roadside shops can order their supplies via the app and have the goods delivered directly to their shop for free. This allows owners to save on transportation costs and get the wholesale prices directly from suppliers. The Growsari app makes shopping for their goods convenient and allows them buy at relatively lower prices than in markets and supermarkets. Through these savings, store owners get more leeway to give competitive prices to their customers, allowing them to earn more.

Expansion

Growsari’s CEO said they’re expanding in key cities in Visayas and Mindanao such as Iloilo, Bacolod, Cebu, Davao, and General Santos. The expansion will allow them to be available in 20 cities and 400 municipalities all over the Philippines in 2022.

“We are proud to share that we are on track to fulfill our mission of creating a positive socio-economic impact on the lives of more MSME owners and the communities they serve nationwide,” Rollan was quoted on Esquire.

He added that they are hoping that Growsari gets to reach more small store owners and transform their businesses for the better.

“As we get farther out into the provinces, a lot of sari-sari store owners are underserved given the challenges of FMCG distributors to physically reach them. Digital inclusion in these areas has also been slower. So we see this as a huge opportunity where Growsari can come in to make a difference in the lives of small physical retail store owners,” Rollan added.

In an earlier article, the Growsari chief used to work for big companies like Procter & Gamble, Boston Consulting Group, and Unilever. He said he’s well aware of how fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies operate. He said Growsari is an opportunity to make use of FMCG to help uplift the lives of small store owners and their communities.
