Guide to Registering Your SIM Card
By now, you must have already heard that SIM card registration will be mandatory. That means that everyone who buys or already owns a SIM card must now register.
SIM card registration is mandated by law to reduce the number of scammers and for security purposes.
What’s Covered by the SIM Card Registration Law?
All kinds of these products are required to be registered under the law:
- Mobile phone SIMs
- Embedded SIMs
- Broadband modem SIMS
- IoT (Internet-of-things) devices with SIMs, such as smart watches, smart tags, smart security systems, fitness trackers, etc.
Where to Register?
Telco providers will provide a registration platform so you can register online by December 27, 2022.
Users in remote areas can register their SIMs with the help of the following, according to the SIM card registration law’s IRR (Implementing Rules and Regulations):
- Telcos
- DICT (Department of Information and Communications Technology)
- NTC (National Telecommunications Commission)
- DILG (Department of the Interior and Local Government)
- DepEd (Department of Education)
Information Required
You’ll need to provide consent and enter the following information to register your SIM card:
- Full name
- Birthday
- Address
- Gender
- Valid ID
Required or Accepted Valid IDs
- Passport
- Philippine National ID
- SSS (Social Security Service) ID
- GSIS (Government Service Insurance System) e-Card
- Driver’s license
- NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) clearance
- Police clearance,
- Firearms’ License to Own and Possess ID
- PRC (Professional Regulation Commission) ID
- IBP (Integrated Bar of the Philippines) ID
- OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration) ID
- BIR (Bureau of Internal Revenue) ID
- Voter’s ID
- Senior citizen’s card
- UMID (Unified Multi-purpose Identification) Card
- PWD (Person with Disabilities) card
- Other government-issued ID with photo
Foreigners are also required to submit the following:
- Passport
- Proof of address in the Philippines (includes hotel booking)
- Return ticket showing date and time of departure from the Philippines
Minors need to have their SIM cards registered under their parents or legal guardian’s name. However, they must provide consent for the registration.
For corporate and business accounts, the following are required:
- Company name
- Address
- Name of authorized signatory

What Happens to Fake Accounts or Identities?
Anyone caught using fake identities or providing wrong information can face a fine of Php100,000 to Php300,000, plus possible jail time of up to 2 years.

hello, as a foreigner, why do I have to provide my departure date? I am currently in Germany and was in the Philippines in May. I have a house there and will probably fly in April/May 2023.
