Chowking is one of the most popular restaurants in the Philippines, particularly because they managed to create a menu that blends Chinese dishes with popular Filipino favorites.
Founded by Robert F. Kuan in 1985, the first Chowking store opened in Rotary Arcade, Makati. Just some 4 years later, Chowking began opening its doors to franchising, with its first franchise and provincial store in Meycauayan, Bulacan.
It would take a decade before Chowking would reach Visayas and Mindanao but by 1996, the brand would reach US soil with its first branch in California. By 2000, it became a wholly owned subsidiary of Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) but continues to expand its network of franchises.
Franchising Chowking
Chowking wants to make sure that franchisees have an entrepreneurial business sense, good moral character, inspiring people leadership, and financial capacity to invest in the business.
The brand requires a franchisee fee of Php1 million. But be prepared to shell out much more than that amount. Chowking estimates that for a lease side, it ranges from Php14 million to Php15 million. This investment includes construction and finishes, kitchen facilities, furniture and fixtures, signages, menu board, and others.
To apply for franchise, prepare the following: letter of intent and accomplished franchise application form. Take note, however, that it is important to include the following information to expedite evaluation of the prospective site:
- Location map of the site
- Floor plan with corresponding space dimension
- General description of the property and locators in the trade area (schools, churches, hospitals, retails outlets, call centers, etc.)
- Proposed rental rates (if available)
- Pictures of the site
- Contact number of the property owner/ administrator
