How to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone With Business and Beyond

We all have a comfort zone. This is the area, or situation, where you feel less stressed and more at ease with what is going on. For some, their comfort zone is their job that they may not like, but it’s so routine that it’s been engrained in their mind. For others, a comfort zone may be the shows and other media they grew up with, while newer media feels intimidating and unfamiliar. There are many ways that we keep to our comfort zone, and while it may seem, well, comfortable, it does hold us back from possibly liking something even better, from making new friends, and from possibly getting the job of your dreams.

Here are some ways you can distance yourself from your comfort zone and not lose your sanity.

Get Help

The first piece of advice we have is that if you’re so anxious and afraid of new things, then you may want to talk to a professional about it. Thanks to online therapy, getting the help you need is easier than ever. Therapy can help you conquer your fears and give you other help you may need with your life. Anything from relationship advice to how to get into a relationship is on the table thanks to therapy.

Start Slow

The first step is to take try to take slow, incremental changes to yourself. Getting a new job and moving out of your town may be too big of a step to get out of your comfort zone. Even just going to a party may be too much for your comfort zone to handle.

Start small. Drive to a new town that’s not too far away, but one that you have not experienced. Talk to someone new. Watch a new show. Try doing things to stimulate your curiosity.

Why Are You Afraid?

Think of some reasons why you’re afraid of new things. Some reasons do make sense. For example, if you ever thought of starting up a business, you may have heard many stories about how people have started up a business and then failed. This fear makes sense. After all, why would you risk getting yourself in debt? However, you may also be able to make a living doing the things you like, and with a sound business plan, you may be able to take as little risk as possible.

For parties and whatnot, you may just have social anxiety, or not know everyone. Those are some logical reasons to be afraid as well. This is something you may want to start small with. Speaking to a stranger every now and then may be able to stimulate your curiosity.

Don’t Go Too Hard

If you do step out of your comfort zone, and you feel too anxious or afraid, step back. A little bit of anxiety is okay when you are trying to conquer your fears, but too much and you may be turned off from ever wanting to try new things. Make sure you’re as comfy as possible while you get out.

People Can Help

With that said, not only should you seek the help of your therapist, but also your friends or family. You can use your children as an excuse to step out of your comfort zone.
