MANILA, Philippines- A young Japanese student is currently making waves on social media after a netizen revealed that he is selling his country’s delicacy, omu-rice (Japanese rice omelette), along an MRT station in the Philippines.
Kuya Sawa, the 23-year-old socio-political student in Japan more popularly known as Kuya Omu-rice, peddles omu-rice along several locations in Manila. Carrying a cooler which he calls “restaurant”, he offers his products to passers-by along the North Avenue MRT station as well as Aurora Boulevard, Cubao.
Kuya Omu-rice rose to fame after netizen Diane Adolfo shared her unique experience in meeting him and buying his homemade dish on her Facebook account.
“Eh di napabili ako tas sabay sabe can i take a picture with you? Ang rare kasi na makakita ko ng ibang lahi na nagtitinda ng sarili nilang produkto sa kalye,” Adolfo wrote.
Shortly after Adolfo’s post went viral, netizens were enticed to try Sawa’s famous omu-rices which were being sold for P35 each or 3 for P100. His product seems to be a hit among Filipinos as they get sold out in a matter of three hours.
Sawa’s omu-rice is so in demand that he only sells one omu-rice per customer so everyone would have the chance to try his homecooked dish. Netizens are also urging Sawa to sell his products in their place.
So how did Sawa acquire so much customers in just a short period of time?
Aside from the viral Facebook post which featured him and his product, the Facebook page “Kuya Omu-rice”, which has amassed over 85,000 likes as of writing, has been created for his business. In the said Facebook page, Sawa announces the time and location where he would be selling omu-rice.
Since Sawa is in the Philippines to work on his thesis, he offers P5 discount to customers who would answer his survey about lowering the age of criminal liability in the Philippines.
