She also didn’t need much capital to begin their kamote chips business. She recalled she only spent for the kamote and a presentable container for the chips.

She shared on GMA’s Pera Paraan, “Ang unang una kong ginastos ay nagspend ako ng P1,000 for the kamote plus yung lagayan.”

After two years, her business grew successfully. From making kamote chips at home, she now has 20 employees working to reach the demand.

From a capital of P1,000, Hilda is now earning P50,000 to P70,000 a month selling their bestselling kamote chips.

According to the smart entrepreneur, it’s important to be creative when thinking of a business idea. She admitted that her raw ingredients are easy to find but she was able to make use of them and build a successful business.

Hilda shared, “Yung mga ingredients ko hindi naman siya ganun ka bonggang-bongga presyo diba. So, mababang presyo lang siya yung aking mga raw materials. Pero nakabuo ako ng negosyo out of it.”

How To Make Kamote Chips

First, choose kamote with orange flesh. Peel to remove the skin. Thinly slice the kamote. The thinner the slices, the crispier they will be.

Another tip to make your chips crispier is to put pieces of ice on them for an hour. Then, air dry for two hours.

Once perfectly dry, you can start deep frying the kamote chips. When the chips start floating on the oil, it means they’re cooked and ready to be strained.

Add any flavor you like and mix well. Your kamote chips are now ready to be served.
