Owner Leaves Corporate Life and Puts Up Lubihan Resort in Siargao

After seeing the movie, ‘Siargao’, Reuben Ganaden II fell in love with the island—how beautiful life there is and with its closely knit community.

Things moved pretty quickly after his first trip to Siargao in early 2018. He wasted no time and began putting up a 14-unit resort in General Luna, Siargao which he called as Lubihan Siargao.

This was also the time when he dropped his corporate life.

His wife, Marie Heidi Dyangko, also dropped her corporate life by third quarter of 2019. Since then, they have been travelling in and out of the island to check on the development of their resort.

When COVID-19 cases started to spike, the couple and their daughter, Zari, decided to stay in Siargao a bit longer than planned.

“Lubihan Siargao is located in quaint coconut grove compound in General Luna, where some of our friends live. During the first weeks of the lockdown, we were advised by the LGU (local government unit) to stay within our premises,” Reuben shares.

A lot to love

For Reuben, there’s more to Siargao than surfing.

“There are so many things Siargao can offer aside from surfing. There’s scuba diving or freediving, kite surfing, and wake boarding. Aside from doing water sports, you can also do land tours and visit all the different sites around Siargao. Island-hopping is another thing you don’t want to miss,” Reuben explains.

Furthermore, there are lots of nearby islands that one can visit and a number of interesting restaurants, as well. They offer a wide range of different cuisines from regional Filipino, Asian, American, European and others.

“After lockdown, most of the people stuck in the cities are definitely longing for nature,” Reuben said. What makes Siargao different from other places is that people can get active here by surfing, or at least, learning how to surf.
