Philippine Tax Academy To Be Launched By The DOF

The Philippine Tax Academy (PTA) will be launched by the Department of Finance (DOF) this week. The PTA initially aims to cater to local treasurers as well as newly hired employees of the fiscal authorities of the country.

A five-day orientation workshop will be launched tomorrow, February 27, 2018. This was announced in the report that was submitted to Finance Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez III. The report states that the PTA will be launched at the workshop for 52 local treasurers and 130 newly hired DOF employees along with the agencies attached to them.

According to Gil S. Beltran, the finance undersecretary, the main goal of the PTA is to familiarize the employees with the different revenue-generation functions of our government.

Beltran also said the attendees in the inaugural workshop comprises of 30 new hires from the DOF, 30 from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), 31 from the Bureau of Customs (BoC), 39 from the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF), alongside with 52 local treasurers.

The PTA will provide knowledge and will cover the government resource mobilization of the DOF for the government. It will also explain how important it is to build the capacity of tax administrators in order for them to help boost the tax collection efficiency.

Schedule of activities

The first day will be dedicated to the orientation and introduction of what they will learn.

Also, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) will use the first day to discuss the Philippine Development Plan for 2017-2022 and the Ambisyion Natin 2040.

The National Tax Research Center will also discuss an overview of the country’s tax policies and administration, as well as the challenges and opportunities that are being faced by tax administrators.

The second day will be solely for the discussion on Gender and Development, briefings on Civil Service Commission rules, and Public Service Ethics and Accountability, and employee benefits.

The third to the fifth day the participants will be working with their respective agencies to familiarize themselves with the positions and processes.
