Dr. Justin is now proudly wearing his stethoscope and white coat as he treats patients in need. But years ago, he was the one in need of financial support, and his small honesty store helped him. He was a determined young scholar from Dumaguete who sold mango floats, cheese sticks, and munchkins while studying.

I placed the items in a blind spot in our classroom, where they are readily available to anyone. There’s also a jar where they place their payment. I sold my cheese sticks for P5 each.]

According to Justin, he earns roughly P1,000 every day when he sells all 200 pieces of cheese sticks.

In another interview on GMA, Dr. Justin shared that he had to find ways to earn money because his parents didn’t have stable jobs.

“Napakahirap talaga. At the same time, nanay ko walang work, yung tatay ko rin walang work, sideline-sideline lang,” he recalled. [It was so difficult because both my parents didn’t have any work.]

Determined to succeed, Dr. Justin was thankful that his small honesty store helped him through his expenses in medical school. He finished medicine at Silliman University in 2021. He passed the Physician Licensure Examination (PLE) in October 2022.

Honesty stores can be a unique business idea, especially if you don’t have much time to watch over your business. It can be successful, like the security guard who owns an honesty fruit stand. But it can also fail since you can’t always expect all people to be honest.

Being a student shouldn’t stop you from being an entrepreneur. There have been success stories of teens who juggled school and managing a business. If you’re looking for extra money, you can look into different business ideas perfect for students.
