Step 14. On your date of appointment, arrive at least 30 minutes before the time. Make sure to bring the ID you used to make the appointment.

How long does it take to get an NBI clearance?

The processing time for NBI clearance application and renewal in the Philippines depends on which branch and time you choose for the appointment. No matter which NBI clearance branch you pick, the earlier the schedule, the better. This means that choosing a morning schedule for your appointment is highly recommended.

You can get your NBI clearance in as early as 15 to 30 minutes upon arrival, if you’re lucky that there aren’t many applicants that day and you get the earliest schedule.

Can I get NBI clearance without appointment?

No! The NBI now requires that everyone go through the online appointment system. But you can ask for help in setting up an appointment; though you might no longer be accommodated for that day, depending on the slots available.

How can I claim NBI clearance?

If you’re lucky, you can just wait for your NBI clearance within just a few minutes. But to claim your unclaimed NBI clearance on another date, go back to the NBI Clearance branch where you originally applied and present the reference number. You will also be asked to present your ID.

Can I get NBI clearance using my maiden name?

Technically, yes. But if you already made an account using your married name, you need to use another email address to register.

However, this is a tricky question because the NBI requires married women to use their married surname. If she chooses her maiden name, then “SINGLE” will appear under the civil status.

But this could lead to added complications, especially if you are applying for a passport, visa, or other important documents. It is possible that the system will detect your real “MARRIED” status.

What if you have hit in NBI?

A hit means that you or a person with the same name has a “record” with any of the following:

  • Courts (MTC, MTCC, MCTC, and RTC).
  • Prosecution Service (City and Provincial Prosecution Offices).
  • Ombudsman and Sandiganbayan.
  • Police and AFP records.
  • Others

You are given a chance to clear your name; however, you have to go through a waiting period from 5 to 10 days. The NBI will meticulously check if the “derogatory records” belong to you or a namesake.

Once the “hit” is cleared, the applicant can return to the NBI after the waiting period to claim the clearance. There are no additional fees collected.

The NBI has the final say on whether a person with a “hit” will receive the clearance after the waiting period or if the matter needs to be escalated to the Quality Control division.

What if the record really belongs to you but the case has been dismissed?

Simply bring the original and a photocopy of the Court Decision/Certification from the Court that shows the case has been dismissed.

What if the record isn’t yours?

You have to sign the Affidavit of Denial (to be provided by the NBI Agent) where you can attest, under oath, that you have nothing to do with the case filed against your namesake. Once approved by the NBI Quality Control division, this will clear your name, release your NBI clearance, and prevent another “hit” from occurring in the future.
