With over 300 stores located nationwide, Andok’s, which primarily offers roasted chicken or litson manok, has indeed become a household name.
Considered a “homegrown legend” in the Pinoy food tradition, Andok’s proved to be the most loved and popular Filipino brand of roasted chicken. It also offers other well-loved products like fried chicken, roasted pork belly, pork barbeque, fried porkchop, pork sinigang and roasted bangus, among many others.
Andok’s Corporation CEO and owner Leonardo “Sandy” Javier Jr., also known as the “Father of Litson Manok”, has shared his success story in his interview with ABS-CBN News.
Like many starting entrepreneurs, Javier tasted disappointment and failure while starting the business sometime in 1985.
With zero capital to launch the future corporation, Javier had no choice but to borrow 12 chickens from his mother’s friend to sell. Unfortunately, Javier was only able to sell two out of the 12 chickens. But this didn’t stop the aspiring entrepreneur from pursuing his passion.
According to Javier, his financial struggle pushed him to work harder.
“Ang sikreto talaga diyan ay kung saan ka nanggaling, sa kahirapan. You have to get out of the difficulty in life kaya kailangan you have to set your target. Kailangan labanan mo ‘yung kahirapan,” Javier told ABS-CBN News.
To come up with the so-called trademark taste of Andok’s, Javier experimented with different ingredients. Soon, Javier began having a daily inventory of 80 chickens at his small stall along West Avenue in Quezon City.
Javier expanded Andok’s menu and had included several other food products. Eventually, Andok’s branched out even to the provinces particularly in Visayas within two years.
He advised aspiring entrepreneurs to not waste time and learn from their mistakes.
“Hindi ka pwedeng magsayang ng oras at kapag ikaw ay nagkamali, tayo ay tao lang nagkakamali, pero you just have to learn from your mistakes and keep going,” Javier said.
The owner of Andok’s attributes the success of his business to his products’ distinct Pinoy taste and affordability. But more than the wealth it has given him and his family, Javier believes that his business has a deeper purpose.
“Pag nanggaling ka sa wala, that will inspire you to move on. Nothing deserves better applause kung hindi ‘yung taong natupad ‘yung gusto niyang gawin sa buhay,” Javier said.
