Owning a resort can be an exciting and rewarding experience. It’s a great way to make money while also providing a fun, relaxing environment for your guests.
Susan Enriquez, GMA Network television and radio host, has started her own resort business. Her bed and breakfast, Balustre Cerca, is not your typical crowded resort; instead, it offers a relaxing farm ambiance. Her farm resort, located in Indang, Cavite, will surely make you enjoy a tranquil vacation away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
The farm resort is actually located within a larger lot that she bought with her colleagues Mark Salazar, Atom Araullo, Branden Milla, and Alex Baltazar in 2017. As a way to cope with the challenges of the pandemic, the journalists started planting trees in their 5,000 sqm property. They soon started building a bahay kubo, a treehouse, and a greenhouse setting.
Susan turned her share of the farm lot into a relaxing resort with a pool, function hall, and A-frame air-conditioned cabins, surrounded by fruit-bearing trees. It also has a huge garden perfect for weddings and other events.
In an interview on Pep, Susan shared that the property is supposed to be her private farm. But she soon realized that some parts of the property had soil that was not ideal for farming. She said, “Dapat kasi for farming lang. Kaya lang yung malaking part ng property, adobe ang lupa. Hindi makabuhay ng gulay.”
[This was really meant for farming, but most of the property has adobe soil (clay soil) where vegetables won’t grow.]
“So ang ginawa ko, yung may adobe, tinayuan ng structure. Yung magandang lupa for planting, tinaniman namin ng mga gulay at prutas,” she added. [So what I did is I built a structure for those with adobe soil, while those soil ideal for planting, I filled with vegetables and fruits.]
Just like any good resort owner, Susan makes it a point to be hands-on with her business. She visits her farm every Friday until Sunday afternoon; similar to how Piolo Pascual and Kathryn Bernardo run their luxury resort.
In an interview on Philstar, Susan shared that farming has always been her passion. Thus, opening a farm resort was a great way to turn her hobby into a lucrative business. She recalled growing up eating freshly picked fruits and vegetables. She said she finds a different kind of peace when she’s around nature. “Kaya siguro farming talaga ang gusto kong pursue,” she added. [That’s why I really wanted to pursue farming.]
