While it is true that Vice Cosmetics grew in popularity in part because it is owned by a celebrity, one of the reasons for its success is that it has found its own target market. It offers quality cosmetics at an affordable price. You can purchase matte lipstick for P99 and cheek and lip tint for P195.

In an interview with Pep, Vice stressed the importance of understanding your market and its needs. “You have to love your market so you will be able to give them what they deserve,” he said.

Vice Cosmetics has come a long way since it was launched in 2017. Now, it’s been listed as one of the Filipino beauty brands to watch in 2023, according to WGSN, a big trend forecasting company.

The reason why Vice chooses to brand his cosmetic line “Ganda for All” is his heartwarming memory of his mother. Before he rose to fame, Vice grew up in a humble family where his mother would fall into debt for a lipstick.

Vice described in an interview with Metro.Style how, as a young boy, he would sneak around trying on his mother’s lipstick. When he accidentally broke it, his mother revealed that she has yet to finish paying for it in installments. His mother told him, “Anak, wala na lipstick ko. Hindi ko pa siya tapos bayaran.” [Son, my lipstick is gone. I haven’t finished paying for it yet.]

He added that lipstick was one of his mother’s most treasured possessions. No matter how challenging their lives were, wearing lipstick would always make her feel happier and give her the courage to face the day.

This memory would stick in Vice’s memory upon realizing how necessary and also expensive makeup and cosmetics can be. He also believes many mothers feel the same way. Thus, Vice Cosmetics was centered on making makeup accessible to all.

“Kahit anong nanay, kahit anong estado sa buhay, mahirap man o mayaman, magkano man ang sweldo, may trabaho man o wala, meron at meron ‘yang lipstick,” he said. [Any mother, regardless of her financial situation, whether she is rich or poor, whether she works or not, will always own a lipstick.]

Similar to Vice, the late Fanny Serrano created his cosmetics company, Fanny Serrano Cosmetics, out of his desire to see others happy. If makeup is also your passion, you can get started on that dream business and learn how to start a cosmetic and beauty product business in the Philippines.
