Kuya Edward’s lumpiang ubod is one of the ‘blockbuster street foods’ that have become trending and viral online. In a vlog by food vlogger Manuel Olazo via YouTube, Kuya Edward shared that he has been selling lumpiang ubod for 5 years but has only gained popularity recently. “Five years na akong nagtitindi nito. Nung um-okay na [lockdown ended], lumakas ulit,” he said.

Aside from keeping a stall in Tayuman Street, Kuya Edward also caters to pre-orders. “Ang oras ko talaga dito ay 3 to 4 pero nala-late kapag maraming order. Kasi nagpapa-order ako eh, tinatawagan lang ako,” he said.

When asked why many customers are so fond of his lumpiang ubod, Kuya Edward said that people consider it a healthier and more nutritious option to eat. “Kasi kailangan nila yung gulay. Healthy ba,” he explained.

“Sulit ang pag-aantay!” the food vlogger said.

Kuya Edward sells his lumpiang ubod for P50 for 2 pieces in a styrofoam container. His lumpia has carrots, singkamas, ubod, and kamote or sweet potatoes. You can get to choose your own lumpia wrapper: egg wrapper, white wrapper or pandan wrapper. The topping options are garlic with chilis, chopped onions, chopped peanuts, and white sugar.

The seller is proud that he makes sure his products are clean and are worth your money. “Hindi ko po tinitipad talaga. Kung ano ang gusto ng customer, ginagawa kong marami po talaga,” he shared in a vlog by Tikim TV on Youtube.

Kuya Edward doesn’t compromise the quality and quantity of his product for profit. He said he personally wakes up very early in the morning to buy the veggies he needs every day in Divisoria so he can be sure that they are fresh.

All of his hard work and perseverance in his business is driven by his desire to provide a better future for his family. “Ang lahat po ng ito ay ginagawa ko para sa pamilya ko. Ang gusto ko po sa kanila ay maiahon ko sila sa kahirapan,” he said.

Small business owners like Kuya Edward, Nanay Bebe selling magic water in Divisoria, and the siomai vendor in Munoz selling 100 kilos a day are inspiring reminders that small businesses have the potential to go big with hard work!
