Young Chef’s Cake Business Helped Him Discover His Passion

Joey Tyler Buan is a 25-year-old chef who graduated from the Angelicum College for the Culinary Arts in 2016. He took specialty courses at the Magsaysay Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts and became an intern at the Peninsula Manila.

When he was a child, he dreamt of becoming a chef as he watched his grandmother—whom he described as a ‘goddess in the kitchen’—cook tuyo. As such, tuyo was the first dish he learned to make.

He specialized in Asian cuisine when he was still in school. Last July 18, he and his batchmates put up Fahrenheit by Tyler and one of the special offerings of the online bakeshop is the parmesan-crusted baked salmon.

Tyler and his friends were supposed to apply for a cruise line but the COVID-19 pandemic put these plans to a halt. Thus, they concentrated on running their online bakeshop.

Aside from running the online bakeshop, Tyler also contributed to this fight against COVID-19 in his own very special way. He baked for the frontliners and he donated oatmeal cookies.

Fahrenheit’s favorites

Though he started his cooking journey with fish, he realized that his heart lies in creating pastries. For his online bakeshop, Tyler was able to develop delicious and eye-catching sweet treats.

One of the bestsellers of the online bakeshop is the strawberry shortcake. It is sweet—but not too sweet—perfect for those who love desserts but do not have sweet tooth.

Aside from the strawberries, the cake also has vanilla cream mousse which stands out because of its texture. It also contains Chantilly cream frosting that perfectly supports the strawberries.

Another client favorite is the wild berries cheesecake that is topped with strawberries and blueberries. The New York cheesecake base taste just right, balanced with the rich spiced graham crust.

Aside from these delectable pastries, the Fahrenheit by Tyler also offers Basque burnt cheesecake, vegan banana loaf, and cookies—chocolate chip, red velvet, and triple chocolate.
