Zeus was among the many celebrities who were badly affected by the pandemic. They lost jobs and Zeus’ home network, ABS-CBN, lost its franchise. He only had P50,000 left in his savings, which was quickly dwindling, and knew he needed to find a way to support his family.

He explained his motivation for starting a business in an article on Pep: “Naubos ang savings ko, kabado na kasi nga nag-pandemic akala natin saglit lang then naubos ang savings ko. Parang mga fifty thousand [pesos] na lang, siyempre mayroon tayong pamilya, nandiyan yung mama ko, mga kapatid ko na umaasa sa akin.” [I was losing my savings. I was nervous because we all thought the pandemic would only last a short time, and then I was losing my savings. I only had around P50,000 and I had a family, my mother, and siblings I needed to support.]

“Sabi ko di ito puwede maubos ng ganito lang, kailangang makaisip ng paraan kasi walang show,” he added. [I can’t just lose it all, I needed to find a way because I had no shows.]

He said that it was his fiancée who suggested they venture into the food business. The couple started two Japanese business concepts. They started with Ta Ramen Na in April 2021, and after 3 months, they launched Le Katsu MNL.

Zeus explained their concepts and how they feel blessed with their success. He added that they are now very focused and hands-on with their business.

[We thought of offering katsu and other Japanese foods in Le Katsu. In just a year, we now have 41 branches. I feel so blessed so I’m focused on my businesses now.]

According to Philstar, the couple easily expanded their food business from 41 branches to 43 branches in locations such as Fairview, Araneta Farmers Cubao, and Puregold Balintawak by January 2023.

Zeus stated that they began with a small kiosk and that this is primarily what they offer to their franchisees. However, their clients can choose to franchise a mini-restaurant if they want.

Zeus’ ability to solve problems and take risks are two indicators of what makes a good entrepreneur. If you are an aspiring entrepreneur, you can check out business ideas for first-time entrepreneurs.
