How to Pay SSS Contributions for OFWs

Did you know that even if you’re an OFW (overseas Filipino worker) who’s currently abroad, you can still pay for your contributions with the SSS (Social Security System)?

First, you’ll need to have an SSS account to do so.

OFW Registration

You’ll need to accomplish this while you’re in the Philippines:

Step 1. Print out and carefully accomplish the Overseas Worker Record (SS Form OW-1). It’s similar to the one that other workers accomplish but contains other information such as your foreign address.

Step 2. Go to the nearest SSS office to register.

How to Pay SSS Contributions for OFWs

If you already have an existing SSS account, you don’t have to register for another one. Instead, you can go to the SSS office to modify your classification to “OFW.”

Alternately, you can do this, but you’ll still go to the SSS office to submit your documents and modify your classification:

Registering Online

Step 1. Go to https://www.sss.gov.ph/ and find the section that’s marked “Apply for an SS Number Online.” Click “Apply Now.” You’ll be taken to another landing page with a message. Click to proceed.

Step 2. Fill out the online form. Make sure that all information is correct. The SSS will send you an email. Click the link on the email to proceed with your application. Note that this link expires in 5 days.

Step 3. Fill out the rest of the information you’re required to accomplish.

Step 4. Click “Generate SS Number.” You’ll receive PDF copies of your SS Number Slip and Transaction Number Slip. Print this.

Step 5. Activate your SSS account from the link provided in another email.

Step 6. Prepare the supporting documents and present these to the e-center personnel at the nearest SSS branch.

Paying for Contributions

Once you have successfully enrolled your SSS account, you can start paying for the monthly contributions.

Note that the SSS monthly contributions will depend on your salary. As an OFW, you’re most likely the only one who will pay for your contribution, unlike workers in the Philippines who are entitled to have part of their SSS contribution paid for by their employers.

As OFW, you can generate the PRN online and pay your contributions through these payment options:

  • Online or finance apps like GCASH and PayMaya
  • Remittance center (make sure it’s legitimate)
  • Payment in the Philippines (SSS office, bayad center, or other payment centers) by a reliable family member (make sure they keep the receipt)
