‘Motivational Rice’ Creator Rendon Labador Slams Expensive Eggs

Businessman and social media influencer Rendon Labador is now on the other side of the business complaint section as he slams the high prices of eggs, although some netizens were quick to retort that he should have also complained against himself for the high price of his ‘motivational rice.’

Rendon Labador Complains About High Prices of Eggs

He went viral for the high cost of his ‘motivational rice’ which was sold at Php100 per cup. So, Rendon might be the last person you’ll ever expect to complain about business and product costing.

However, the infamous businessman was strung with anger and emotion as he was being interviewed over egg prices.

According to Rendon, it was unfair that the egg prices were going so high when there weren’t issues affecting the agriculture industry, such as egg shortage and bird flu or similar problems that he believes could cause the spike in poultry product costs.

Rendon also explained that the high egg prices are unfair for gym-goers such as himself who rely on eggs to meet their protein needs.

He added that the issue isn’t just affecting him and his gym buddies but also everyone else who loves to eat eggs and also the food industry.

For once, Rendon was praised by netizens after he explained that ordinary people already consider eggs as their primary food. As an example, he said that a family might use three eggs mixed with sardines for their meal.

What’s the Reason for the High Egg Prices?

It isn’t just this year that the egg prices went high.

Actually, this is a regular trend as Christmas approaches due to the high demand for eggs, which is an important ingredient in cakes and other festive treats such as leche flan, empanada, and so many others.

This is confirmed by the Philippine Egg Board (PEB) and the United Broiler Raisers Association (UBRA).

Egg prices are currently at least Php8.50 each for medium-sized eggs, based on the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) monitoring.

According to Newspapers PH, these variable egg prices led GAP Party-list Representative Nicanor Briones to propose for eggs to be sold by the kilo, the same way that meat and other poultry products are sold.

However, the current practice of selling eggs by piece, dozen, or tray is still in effect, with prices varying according to the egg sizes, not their weight.
