One of the good results of the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) is that a lot of people have found ways to discover newfound talents and skills and turned it into a lucrative business. Aside from the income, these businesses gave them means to survive the anxiety that came along with the pandemic.
Liezl Amurao-Hipolito, a flight attendant from Philippine Airlines, is among those who were able to support her family by turning her hobby into a business.
Way back in 2017, Liezl started collecting rare types of cacti and succulents, which are natural air purifiers. As a flight attendant, she would be away from home for several days. It’s a good thing that these plants can be left for days without water.
When the lockdown was implemented in March, airports were closed to prevent the spread of the virus. As a result, countless employees lost their jobs, and Liezl was among them.
She was able to support her family using their savings. However, she was still anxious about losing her job. She started to think of ways on how she can earn from the safety of her home.
With more time to take care of her plants, she realized that she could transform her love of plants into a business.
Her heart and the soil
It was then that she thought of selling her plants online, and Zel’s Heart and Soil was born.
“I never knew I could make money out of my plant collection; a lot have been asking if I could sell some plants, so I decided to give it a try,” she said.
She also shared that she posted on Facebook and Instagram, and people would send her a message to buy. “I was amazed at how I could make money out of my hobby. Now even my husband, who is a flight attendant, too, helps me with the growing plant business. It keeps us very busy every day, too,” Liezl added.
