Unique ‘Lechon Manok’ Cooked in a Clay Pot Goes Viral

A business selling unique ‘lechon manok’ (roasted chicken; also spelled as ‘litson manok’) recently went viral for their food products cooked in a clay pot.

Novelty Foods: “Litson sa Banga”

Most ‘lechon manok’ businesses have similar cooking strategies wherein the food items are roasted over charcoal and are automatically and constantly turned to ensure they’re cooked evenly. However, for Cynthia’s Litson sa Banga, the food items are hung inside a huge clay pot.

In an interview with Zacas TV, the owner explained that the recipe for the lechon manok and the other food they’re offering (such as lechon tuna, lechon belly, and others) were created by his wife, Cynthia (also the namesake of the restaurant and food business).

However, it was he who created the concept of cooking these in the giant clay pot and designed the pot with special rings and roasting hooks to hang their chicken, belly, and other food products.

And while some netizens commented that this concept is actually ‘quite common’ in other places such as Thailand, it’s new in the Philippines.

The restaurant is located in Umali Subdivision in Los Baños, Laguna. Apparently, students are their main customer base.

The owner explains that like other businesses, they also started out small. They made sure that their food tasted great and everything was hygienic and safe – from start (such as the marinating process) to finish (served on their plate or as a takeaway meal).

He explained that by doing so, they are enticing their customers to come back again and again – and also advertise their business by word of mouth to their friends.

The strategy worked.

Today, the businesses are booming and they’re already gaining renown through social media, food bloggers or vloggers, and even local television outlets.

How To Make Your Business Stand Out From Competition

Notice how so many businesses simply copy each other so that one business corner might be filled with tocino stalls while another might be a bunch of coffee shops.

To stand out from your competition, try these strategies or ideas to make your business unique:

  • Think of ways to be different (such as the business cooking lechon manok in a pot while others use the traditional way)
  • Study the competition but find ways to offer something different (for example, cone-shaped pizzas)
  • Get ideas from other stores that sell something else (for example, maybe you can mix and match food items to create a ‘twist’ to a traditional food, such as the unique siomai business)
  • Use social media
  • Create a catchy tagline and unique logo for your business
